Dinner and accommodation in Tamboho

Antananarivo – Antsirabe (160km-3hrs)

After breakfast we will drive along scenic roads that border rice fields and local villages to Antsirabe, a town known for its thermal waters. We will stop in Ambatolampy for lunch and visit a workshop run by micro-entrepreneurs that produces cooking pots out of recycled aluminum. After arriving at your hotel in Antsirabe you will enjoy a city tour via rickshaw, visiting marketplaces and artisan studios.

Antsirabe – Ranomafana (240km-5hrs)

After breakfast we will embark to Ranomafana, stopping at Ambositra, a bustling small town famed for woodcarving. You will continue to Ranomafana, situated on the Namorona River and a good entry point for Ranomafana National Park. In the evening you will visit the rainforest and experience animal viewing (Fosa, chameleons, frogs, Varibolomadinika, and the smallest lemur in the world, Microcebus lemur) by starlight.

Ranomafana – Ambalavao – Ranohira (366km – 4hrs)

After an early breakfast, a park ranger will accompany you on your hike through the rainforest. The park contains twelve lemur species – aside from the golden bamboo lemur, visitors can spot eastern woolly lemur, red-bellied lemur, eastern grey bamboo lemur, greater bamboo lemur, red-fronted brown lemur, black-and-white ruffed lemur and brown mouse lemur – as well as several bird species.After checking out from the hotel in the late afternoon, you will continue on your road trip to Isalo and stop at Fianarantsoa, an ancient town perched on the hills that is an UNESCO world heritage site due to the beautiful architecture of the buildings. You will also visit Ambalavao, a colorful and quaint village in the highlands that is the center for Zebu (Malagasy horned cattle) trading. Many tribes bring their herds of cattle here to the weekly Wednesday Zebu market, a noisy but fascinating experience. You will also visit nearby Anja Reserve, a small private park that was created to promote ecotourism and benefit the community.

Isalo National Park

Isalo National Park was established in 1962, and has rocks dating from the Jurassic period. These rocks (known as “ruiniformes”) have been sculpted over the centuries, by wind and rain, into incredible and unusual shapes cut through by impressive gorges and canyons. The park homes also approximately 80 species of birds (including the rare Benson’s rock-thrush, the knob-billed duck or the crested ibis), 35 of reptiles, several endemic frogs. There is also lovely flora and interesting local endemic plants among the 500 species that are found within Isalo, such as the elephant´s foot and some rare palms and aloe species. A natural stone cave overlooks a crystal-clear waterfall, which tumbles into a deep green pool surrounded by overhanging pandanus trees; a true oasis.

Ranohira - Tulear (243km – 4hrs) – Anakao (45min speed boat)

Morning drive to Tuléar will weave you through diverse scenery, baobabs, colorful tombs, and villages born due to the discovery of sapphires in Ilakaka. From Tuléar’s port, you will catch a speedboat to Anakao Village.

This Vezo fishing village bustles with life and offers visitors a number of options for entertainment and sport (for example, visiting Tsimanampetsotse park by quad bikie or scuba diving). The private and gorgeous beach offers fine white-sanded beaches and coral reefs. Without doubt, you will also enjoy sailing to a small nearby island, Nosy Ve, which has an incredible beach and a breeding colony of red-tailed tropical birds that are fascinating to watch. Leisurely enjoy the beaches and waters of the Mozambique Channel.
