Cape Winelands and Franschhoek

Indulge in a full day in the spectacular Cape Winelands, beginning with your first wine tasting on the way to Franschhoek, home to award-winning wine estates and known as South Africa’s gourmet capital. Drive past the Groot Drakenstein Prison, where Nelson Mandela was incarcerated before his release and where he took his first steps as a free man.

Visit the village of Franschhoek and see the Huguenot monument, and then enjoy wine tasting in and around Franschhoek before stopping in the village for lunch. Continue your journey through the panoramic landscapes of the Helshoogte Mountain Pass, stopping for a third wine tasting in the area, time permitting. Your adventure ends with a leisurely stroll along the oak-lined streets of the university town of Stellenbosch, well known for its traditional Cape Dutch architecture.

Cape Peninsula

This full-day tour takes in the scenic highlights of the Cape Peninsula, beginning with the four secluded beaches of Clifton, as well as the sidewalk cafés and bars of trendy Camp’s Bay. The next stop is the spectacular coastal suburb of Hout Bay, a former fishing village with a long, sandy beach facing a bay framed by the mountains. Explore the restaurants, shops and markets of Mariner’s Wharf, a harbour-front emporium with a distinct maritime ambiance.

If it is open, the tour will continue along the breathtaking Chapman’s Peak Drive, before heading to the Cape of Good Hope to explore the nature reserve, see the Diaz Cross and perhaps even indulge in lunch at a local restaurant. From here you will travel to Simon’s Town, famous for its naval military base, and then visit the charming penguin colony at Boulders Beach Reserve in Cape Point Nature Reserve. The tour ends at the beautiful Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, set against the eastern slopes of spectacular Table Mountain.

Flight to Phinda Game Reserve

You will be collected from Cape Grace hotel and be driven to Cape Town International airport, where you will check in for your flight to Durban (flight cost is excluded in the cost). Upon arrival at King Shaka airport, you will depart by scheduled federal air flight to Phinda Game Reserve (luggage restriction of 20 kg per person in soft bags only) .Upon arrival at the airstrip you will be driven to Vlei lodge.

Your stay includes three meals daily, soft drinks, house wines, local brand spirits and beers, teas and coffees, safari activities, refreshments on game drives, nature walks (1 hour) accompanied by experienced armed trackers (subject to availability), emergency medical evacuation insurance and laundry.

After a lovely breakfast, embark on an enxciting safari in Phinda Private Game Reserve, situated in subtropical northern KwaZulu-Natal, with close proximity to the warm Indian Ocean. Not only do you get close to popular breeding grounds of highly endangered sea turtles, you also observe abundant wildlife, including Africa’s Big Five, and up to 415 bird species.

The reserve also provides sanctuary for threatened wildlife, such as cheetah and black rhino.

This morning you can look forward to exciting game-drives in open 4x4 safari vehicles led by experienced rangers and Zulu trackers, as well as thrilling optional activities on the water, in the air and on the beach. Safari activities at Phinda are plentiful. Enjoy game-drives, interpretive bush walks, canoeing on the Mzinene River, White Rhino tracking, or watch the sunrise or sunset whilst enjoying a Mzinene Riverboat Cruise.

You will be transferred from Vlei Lodge to Richards Bay Airport to catch your flight to Johannesburg and then, your return flight home.
