ITINERARY

Gorilla Trekking (8 Days)

We invite you to Uganda, home to not only mountain gorillas but also monkeys and chimpanzees. Trekking in the Ugandan mountains - also deemed “Switzerland of Africa” – grants visitors the privileged opportunity to see the gorillas in their own environment. These gentle and intelligent creatures live in harems controlled by the silverback male, or king. During this journey you will also travel through an exquisite park - Queen Elizabeth National Park - where you observe hippos, elephants and water birds, and take a cruise on the Kazinga Channel flowing between Lake Edward and Lake George. Indulge yourself in this fantastic world nestled away in the depths of East Africa.

SERENA LAKE VICTORIA HOTEL
Rising above white-terraced rose gardens that descend through water cascades and fountains reaching the shores of Lake Victoria, this tranquil resort has been positioned to offer both a contrast and an extension to the 5-star profile of the flagship Kampala Serena Hotel, thus ensuring that the Serena portfolio embraces all aspects of Uganda's social and corporate life.

A gracious terracotta and cream palace, the central citadel is encircled by broad café and cocktail terraces, where cushioned sofas invite relaxation. Above the marble reception, where a Roman fountain plays, white-arched galleries rise to a clear glass atrium, through which shafts of light illuminate the fountained courtyard below.

MWEYA SAFARI LODGE
Mweya Safari Lodge offers visitors an unforgettable experience. Located on a peninsula within the heart of the Queen Elizabeth National Park, it is surrounded by the magical Rwenzori Mountains aptly described as the 'Mountains of the Moon'. To the east, lie the guardians of the birthplace of mankind, the Great Rift Valley hills, separated from the Mountains of the Moon by the meandering Kazinga Channel. Here the water flows endlessly into two lakes – Lake George and Lake Edward.

Enjoying an early morning or evening safari drive not only provides the best game viewing opportunities, but also allows you to rest during the heat of the day. The wildlife viewing depends, to a degree, on the season but the Kasenyi plains are overall excellent for sighting lion and large herds of Uganda kob. The Mweya peninsula offers excellent game drives with magnificent views across the water to the Rwenzori Mountains. Mweya is one of the best places to look for leopard, which live in the dense, scrubby thickets. Time permitting visit the Kyambura Women’s Coffee Cooperative and its coffee processing station or the wetland reserve to spot birds.

Kyambura Gorge

The Kyambura Gorge is an extraordinary natural environment and forms a stark contrast to the surrounding grasslands. Here you can track one of our closest animal relatives, the chimpanzee. The chimp population is quite mobile and viewing can be unpredictable but nevertheless, the walk itself is enchanting. In the afternoon take a cruise on the Kazinga Channel that flows between Lake Edward and Lake George. Kazinga is home to one of the greatest concentration of hippo in Africa and herds of elephant, buffalo and other animals come to drink at the waters edge. The channel is also a magnet for water birds, with great flocks of pelicans and the fish eagle to observe near the shore.
