Tropical Plumage
This is a wonderful time to visit since the weather is lovely but the large groups of tourists have left! The diving is excellent and the waters are pristine, teeming with diverse marine life and flora. It is also a true paradise for bird lovers since it is home to many rare species exhibiting their colorful and exotic tropical plumage.

Mantasoa Lake
Traveling to this iconic island is ideal (April to October) when the weather is dry and warm. The wildlife viewing is excellent during this period of the year. This is the last month for the migration of the humpback whales, and at the same time many bird species are displaying, nesting and in breeding plumage. Visit the Mantasoa and Alaotra Lakes that are surrounded by spectacular landscapes and traditional villages.

Pemba
Climbing Kilimanjaro is superb (August to October, and January to mid-March). This is the peak season for wildlife viewing at Ruaha and Selous, as well as at Tarangire National Park. Travel to Pemba, off the coast of Tanzania, for an adventure in a superb corner of beauty and culture!

Lake Kivu
Trek the impressive Virunga Mountain range to find the endangered gorillas and golden monkeys! An experience of a lifetime to come into the wild and enter their home. A few hours away by car is is Lake Kivu and the scenery of hillsides plunging into the lake is stunning. Have a swim and relax in a fairly untouched land.

Lewa Reserve
One of the most overwhelming attractions is the annual wildebeest migration between the Serengeti in Tanzania and the Masai Mara in Kenya (June to September). Have an adventure and go camel treking through the wild. Visit Lewa, a private reserve set up to protect black rhino, sitatunga, and the endangered Grevy's zebra. You can enjoy your game viewing on foot, on the back of a camel or in a traditional safari vehicle.

Central Kalahari
It is high Season (July to October). Visit the Okavango Delta and the elephants at Chobe National Park. The first rains make it a spectacular time to photograph the enchanting and colorful scenery and wildlife viewing is at its best. The Central Kalahari Game Reserve is the ultimate in remote safari destinations. While there were always small groups of Bushmen living in the reserve, it was closed to the public until recently and most of it is still inaccessible.

Twyfelfontein
High season (July to October). Visit the Kalahari Desert where the landscape is composed of golden grass and small red dunes rather than the tall dunes of Sossusvlei. With large open spaces the silent and solitude of the desert is enchanting. Photography aficionados are advised to take advantage of the spectacular scenes resulting from cloud build up (August and September). Visit Twyfelfontein, a rocky site that contains about 2,000 rock carvings or rock art and is a UNESCO approved World Heritage Site.

River Rafting
Most lodges welcome guest outside of the rainy season (December to March). Wildlife and game viewing is wonderful at this time of the year around waterholes and along riverbanks. Safari in the Lower Zambezi or South Luangwa as well as the Busanga Plains in Kafue National Park. Birding is exceptional (September to mid-April), when the migrants are most prolific during their breeding season in the southern hemisphere. River rafting is most exciting during this period when the Zambezi is low (August to December).

The whale season continues until October. A must-see for those who enjoy spectacular scenery is a visit to the floral extravaganza in Namaqualand when the desert-like terrain is transformed into a carpet of flowers.

Canoe Safari on Zambezi
Zimbabwe can be visited any time of the year but the best game viewing time is in the dry season, May to October, when animals congregate around the rivers and waterholes. This is especially true in Hwange where the artificially pumped waterholes attract many animals, including big herds of elephants. Victoria Falls is best visited from May through September. The guiding standards are some of the highest in Africa and this makes it an excellent place to try a walking safari, enjoying the scenic splendors and low tourist densities.
